The preseason brings few things to be excited about. One of the things that fans want to see, though, is how their team’s rookies perform in game situations. One of the most looked forward to debuts last week was Tavon Austin’s with the St. Louis Rams. Austin, though, merely made it onto the stat sheet. That means nothing, though.
Rams’ head coach Jeff Fisher isn’t one to show his full deck of cards the first chance he gets. Austin was only targeted once during the Rams opener last week, but that may have been by design. Going into Week 2 though, the story could change.
According to the Rams’ official Twitter, quarterback Sam Bradford said that Austin will be touching the ball plenty in the coming weeks.

Austin has also been active in practices all week, hauling in passes from all over the field. The preseason is all about getting looks at things you’re unsure of. Fisher and the Rams know what they’re getting with Austin, and in due time they’ll get glimpses of him in live action to see just waht he can do. Don’t be surprised or disappointed if his number doesn’t get called very often, but be sure that Fisher will begin using him in different ways before this preseason winds down.
