It was another slow week for rookie Jedd Gyorko, but it brought another home run and his San Diego Padres went 5-1 for the week.
Let's check out how the young slugger did.
9/4: 1-4, 1 2B
9/7: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 Run
Gyorko's Padres stand at 65-77 as the season winds down. Even though the Padres are sixth in the NL Wild Card standings, they sit 15.5 games out of the playoffs. While it's very unlikely that they'll make the playoffs, it's not impossible. A series of collapses and a very strong performance could push them in.Last season the Padres finished 76-86. They need just 12 wins to better their record from last season. It looks as if, however, they'll finish one place higher in their division.
In just a short month, Gyorko will have one full MLB season under his belt as he continues to make a push for NL Rookie of the Year.
