Week 2 of the NFL Preseason ended with a great game for Mountaineer fans. Terence Garvin, Will Johnson, Joe Madsen, Chris Neild, J.D. Woods and Pat White all were in uniform.
After White's performance against the Titans in Week 1, where he led what would be the eventual game-winning drive for the Redskins, fans wanted to see what he had in store for Act II.
Before we get to White, Will Johnson left the game during the second quarter with a rib injury after getting drilled coming across the middle. DeJon Gomes was penalized on the play for leading with the helmet. He did not return to the game.
Pat White came in at the start of the fourth quarter for the Redskins. He immediately completed a 7-yard pass on first down. After picking up a first down, RB Chris Thompson fumbled the ball, giving it back to the Steelers.
On the next series, the Redskins called a couple of rollout passes for White. He looked sharp on one, completed for 11 yards, then threw a little high on the second.
Two series later, White broke off back-to-back 13-yard runs coming off of the read-option. A few plays later, White handed the ball to Roy Helu Jr. on another read play for a 30-yard TD to put the Redskins ahead of the Steelers 24-13, which would go on to be the final score.. White read the play quickly and made the right decision.
After a Steelers' punt, White threw an INT on a play to the outside. His receiver slipped on the play.
With the exception of the interception, White looked good. He was victimized by a few bad drops for the second game in a row. He looked fluid and quick as he maneuvered around the pocket, and his passes came out crisp with good velocity. He finished going 3 of 6 for 22 yards and an INT through the air, and 4 rushes for 24 yards.
Chris Neild played with the second-team defense for the Redskins. He did not record any tackles, but looked sturdy battling on the line and even dropped back into pass coverage on at least one play.
Garvin and Woods record any stats in the game.
